Narrative During Books Til the Boys Come Home: A World War I Novel ('Til The Boys Come Home #1)

World War II gets all the attention. This book is a gentle reminder that before the Hollywood portrayal of The Good War in all its glory and Great American Heroes that spawned The Greatest Generation, there was another Great War, equally important in American history. Considering the one-hundred year anniversary of WWI this is the perfect opportunity to remind ourselves that human terrorism is always with us.
Here is the story of two young boys growing up in rural Idaho who would go on to fight in the War to End All Wars. One would experience the joy of learning to pilot an airplane as a World War I flying ace. The other would suffer the horror of the trenches. Will either survive and see their families again? Read this book and find out. It is hard not to get caught up in the drama Jerry Borrowman creates in his excellent account of what life was like in America pre-WWII.
The best way to study history is to read historical fiction. When a book like this comes along you can't easily put it down. Read it and pass it on.

Evaluate About Books Til the Boys Come Home: A World War I Novel ('Til The Boys Come Home #1)
In this historical novel Borrowman provides a decent look at life in the United States on the cusp of the outbreak of the Great War and life from the point of view of American troops. The first 120 pages are set in Idaho and delve into some nuances about Mormon life, but Borrowman missed opportunities to interlace major historical events into the lives of his characters. The following 2/3 of the book is set in Europe and heavily focuses on trench warfare and air combat. This section covers from

I have always loved historical fiction. I was terrible at history, so anything to get me involved with fictional characters experiencing history helps me get interested. This is one of three books, this one set in WWI, the last 2 set in WWII. I liked a lot of things about the book, but I'm not sure I loved Borrowman's writing style. The dialogue often seemed cheesey in the extreme! Good message, however. It just seemed to take me a long time to get through.

l liked the book, but after something happened that I didnt like, I stopped reading it for a time. Then I allowed myself to finish it and it got good again.

Really enjoyed this book. It is a WWI historical fiction with an LDS viewpoint. I love how it gives a lot of information about the time period and the type of fighting that occured during the war but weaves it into a story that captivates the audience and pulls you right along. The story takes place in 3 sections, beginning during the boys teenage years and the closeness they develop as part of a teacher's quorum at church. It is not until the middle section that some of them go off to war. I

I wanted to like this book, but it was just okay for me. It was really, really long and I was bored for a lot of it. A lot of the dialogue seemed cheesy and unrealistic to me. I was excited to read a WWI novel, but I really didn't learn anything about WWI. I did like the two main characters, Trevor and Dan, but it just wasn't enough. Just didn't love it.

I didn't really read all of this book, just ended up skimming. I thought it moved too slowly, and there was way too much explaining how things work - steam engines, mechanics of flying, etc. You can tell the author is really into that kind of thing, and I am not. It's the story of two fourteen year old boys who become friends, and later fight in WWI. It's a decent story, just too long and drawn out for my tastes.

very interesting couldn't put in down.
