Narrative Toward Books Beautiful Sheep
Before reading this book, I had absolutely no interest in sheep. And even after reading it, I'm still not going to be a huge fan (not that I have anything against them). It was an interesting collection of pictures of beautiful sheep (the title was certainly correct there!), but for the average reader, I'm not sure if this book will have wide appeal. Would recommend for those who are interested in animal breeds, or those who are interested in livestock or enjoy looking at books with photographs of animals.I was very surprised, too, by just how many varieties of sheep there are! These were just a small selection. Some looked more like goats than sheep, to me, so it came as a real surprise to see just how varied these breeds really were!

If you think all sheep are the same, get this book! You'll meet an impressive variety of breeds such as the cuddly Southdown, the shaggy Wensleydale, and the four-horned Manx Loghtan that will boggle the mind. Before reading this book, I had absolutely no interest in sheep. Nice details and great profiles of some relatively rare breeds. Photographs are beautiful.I love this book, partly for the variety of sheep breeds but also for the photography. I can't imagine how long it took the photographer to get all the photos completed with perfect backdrops, no poop or other sheep misbehavior, and some truly hilarious sheepy expressions. It's a great coffee table book!

A very lovely, and useful, book; which lends the urban-bred spotter a realistic opportunity to make an informed identification, and also to learn how sheep are bred and cross-bred for desirable characteristics (meat, wool, ease of lambing, etc). The exquisitely photographed animals are thankfully portrayed with a reminder warning that those pictured are best of breed; whereas the broader genetic base of animals which are seen in field or on mountain, are rarely so easy to identify; especially
They're sheep, and they can be beautiful. I hadn't thought much about the number and diversity of breeds, of which this is a small proportion. I'm more interested from the perspective of fiber than meat or dairy.
Lovely book. One of the girls brought it to the 2010 Lexington Retreat. I wanted to check it out more at home. I learned a lot about the different breed types. It is a general breed book, not necessarily geared toward the fiber end. Great book nonetheless. I would buy it.
