This is the best one so far. Loved all the riddles and the plot twists and discoveries they make. Some are oh-so obvious while others are a proper shock.I need to read the next one around about now please. Desperate to find out if my theories are correct.

Love that my copy of this book is sparkly like a diamond. Wonder why it has that extra fancy design element and the others in the original series don't? Though I do know the 3rd Dragon series has some pretty sparkly covers going, so my nerdy book manufacturing side will be assuaged.Like some have noted already, the excellence in this penultimate novel is through the time the characters spend with this final Guardian. One of the criticisms of the other six is that the characters don't encounter

I'm fairly certain that as a kid this was my favourite of the Deltora Quest books. Back then I loved the change from fighting the monsters with brute force or trickery, to fighting the monster using logic and reason and completing riddles. This novel started with the aftermath of the last one (as they all do really), with Leif, Barda and Jasmine attempting to go to the Valley of the Lost, and trying to stay in hiding and away from any Ols that might try to kill them. This might be the last gem for the belt of Deltora, but it is definitely not the last step on the journey. The gems may all get restored to the belt, but they still need the heir, and Lief is so very aware of this as they travel towards the Valley of the Lost. But, like the rest of the gems, it is not just a simple means of finding where the gem is hidden they have to battle the guardian to win it.
