Kim's spooky auto-biographical account of alien abduction and spiritual transcendence represents a high point in UFO lore, not just for the intensely introspective depictions of mental anguish in the face of the unknown, but also the hauntingly beautiful full-color illustrations by artist Darryl Anka that drip off the pages and perfectly encapsulate the disorientation of the narrator.

Ms. Carlsberg lays out a vivid tale. A photographer on Baywatch in the 90's, at some point she began to suffer terrible nightmares involving being chased and kidnapped by beams of light and little green men. These memories evolved into seemingly out-of-body experiences, and Kim apprehensively started to accept that something very real and very troubling was happening to her. What takes place during these bouts of missing time is intensely disturbing, and Anka's imaginative oil-color scenery gives us a strong mental image to run with. Whether the author was troubled to begin with, or as a result of her discoveries, is a moot point; she was clearly moved by something intangible in her life, something she could not prove to or even tell others. Her descriptions of constant panic and the eerie, detached sense of wonder that arises from the vicariousness of her encounters does not quickly rub off. The section documenting a mental battle that consumes her mind as the "visitors" come for her in the middle of the night gives me pause every time I conjure it.

This is a very strange book, capable of inducing deep psychological musings. It is not concerned with making you "believe" Kim's story so much as bringing you into her world using an effective combination of mediums. It is not for the feint of heart. There are themes touching on rape, grief, obsessive paranoia, and clinical depression, on top of the litany of weirdness that accompanies alien abduction phenomena. This is pretty dark stuff, unmistakably the deep end of my teenage foray into the supernatural. The combination of lucid narrative and bizarre artwork had a tendency to mess with my mind, creating odd sensations that were not necessarily welcome. But more mature adventurers looking to have their minds blown will be able to appreciate on some level this visual and literal journey through an articulate young woman's existential torments.

Personally this hit home with me ....alot. as a fellow abductee myself,i could relate to her experiences so much,and bought alot of memories and also triggered some too .But it definately was an amazing read,i couldnt put it down. A must read.Highlighly recommended for researchers who are interested in encounters from an experiencer's perspective. If you're skeptic then all the better - digest how the author endures the extra-terrestrials' continual abductions. Imagine a stranger recognizing you from their own abuction on board a UFO!
