Interpretation In Pursuance Of Books Mountain Laurel (Montgomery/Taggert (Publication order) #15)
Captain 'Ring Montgomery was handsome, a skilled rider, a crack shot, popular with the men and their ladies. That was reason enough for a jealous, surly colonel to saddle Montgomery with a most peculiar assignment: to escort an opera singer into the Colorado gold fields.
'Ring's plan was to scare the little lady enough so that she'd hightail it for home. After all, a Civil War was brewing! But LaReina, The Singing Duchess -- as Maddie Worth called herself on stage -- didn't scare easy. And she didn't intend to explain her reasons for coming West to any high and mighty soldier. Captain Montgomery might be smart enough to figure out that she was no European duchess, and gentleman enough not to take advantage of her when he'd had the chance, but he'd have to go on thinking she had some insane desire to sing opera to a bunch of ragtag miners. She didn't dare trust him with the truth....

Not the bestFor me this book dragged. The story didn't have the feeling of "can't wait to see what happens next" her other books have been much better.1850'sHring Montomery: Army Officer... brave, honest, good looking, well-liked; assigned by jealous commander to escort Maddie to California as she sings opera at 6 gold rush camps... Maddie Worth: father famous explorer of the west, of Indians, of wildlife, of plants... kids and mom joined him; but at some point, she decided to become an opera singer... studied in Europe, sang In Europe, now back in America... she's ambitious... she sings, until she gets a note saying that her 12 year old
Parts of this story entertained me, but more parts annoyed me. The two main characters floated on the annoying side of the river. He's dashingly handsome and conveniently available and she the damsel in distress. I digress...

This is a beautiful love story, with tons of twists and turns. This story has another handsome Montgomery, Whom's commanding officer on the army thought it would be hilarious to send him off on a "strange" assignment. He's to escort an Opera singer through the dangerous gold fields of Colorado, to sing for the hard working and drinking miners. Ring Montgomery wasn't pleased with his assignment to "babysit" a traveling singer when they were on the verge of the Clivil War. The "traveling Singer
Way too much hyperbole when the author described Montgomery. Plus I had no interest in reading how this woman was so much better than men and didn't need help from the captain.
Found Maddie very irritating at times especiall when she acts like she's God's gift to Earth.Still has a somewhat fairytale ending but overall flat like the land they traveled.
